Clutch Cover is the pressure plate assembly of the clutch, 9 inch (229 mm) diameter, coil-spring type with three release fingers.

It bolts to the flywheel, and its spring-loaded pressure plate clamps the driven plate against the flywheel face. The three release fingers are actuated by the clutch release bearing to disengage drive. Pairs with the matching 9 inch spring-type driven plate (591704).

Frequently asked questions

What is the 9 inch clutch cover (591705)?
The clutch cover is the pressure plate assembly, 9 inch (229 mm) diameter, coil-spring type with three release fingers. It bolts to the flywheel and clamps the driven plate against the flywheel face. The three fingers are pushed by the release bearing to disengage drive. It fits Series 1 and Series 2 and 2A petrol engines.
What's the difference between this cover and other 9 inch covers?
This is the 3-finger coil-spring cover, suited to the early non-synchronised gearbox setup with the curved gear lever. Land Rover used more than one 9 inch cover design, so match the release-finger type and gearbox spec to your vehicle. It pairs with the matching 9 inch spring-type driven plate.
Should the cover be replaced with the clutch plate?
Yes, the clutch cover is typically renewed together with the driven plate and release bearing. The spring pressure weakens with age and heat, causing slip, and matching new parts give even clamping. Since the gearbox must come out to reach the clutch, the set is usually changed in one go.
