The Range Rover Evoque L538 is the first-generation Evoque, produced at Halewood, UK from July 2011 to 2019 under chassis code L538. Model years run from 2012 to 2019. The collection covers the 5-door and 3-door SUV variants (produced through to 2018) and the convertible (produced from 2016 to 2019).
The L538 rides on the D8 platform, also known as LR-MS, a high-strength steel monocoque architecture developed by Land Rover as a heavily modified derivative of the Ford EUCD base. The D8 platform is also used on the Land Rover Discovery Sport. This architecture gives the Evoque a car-like driving character distinct from the body-on-frame and aluminium-intensive platforms used in other Range Rover generations.
Drivetrain configuration varies by variant. Four-wheel drive vehicles use a Haldex-based on-demand AWD system. Front-wheel drive was available on select diesel variants, specifically the eD4, which used a single-clutch, front-axle-only setup for improved efficiency. The L538 production run splits into two distinct specifications at the 2015 model year.
Pre-facelift vehicles (model years 2012 to 2015) used Ford-derived powerplants. Petrol variants used the 2.0L Ford EcoBoost Si4 turbo four-cylinder. Diesel variants used the 2.2L Ford Duratorq (PSA DW12) in TD4 and SD4 states of tune. The automatic gearbox on pre-facelift vehicles is the 6-speed Ford Aisin AW F-21 unit, also designated the Aisin Warner TF-81SC.
Post-facelift vehicles (model years 2016 to 2019) introduced JLR's Ingenium engine family. Both petrol and diesel variants moved to the 2.0L Ingenium turbo four-cylinder. The 9-speed ZF 9HP automatic gearbox replaced the 6-speed unit on automatic variants. The 6-speed Getrag M66EH50 manual remained available in select markets on diesel variants throughout the production run.
Engine-specific parts including oil filters, timing components, gaskets, sensors, and turbo components are not interchangeable between the Ford-derived and Ingenium specifications. Always confirm your engine code and model year before ordering.

Fitment GuidanceThe most reliable method for confirming parts fitment on an L538 is your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The VIN is a 17-character code stamped on the door jamb plate, on the windscreen base near the A-pillar (driver or passenger side depending on market variant), and recorded in your V5C or national registration document.
The tenth character of the VIN encodes the model year. The eighth character encodes the engine variant. If you are ordering engine-specific parts, turbo components, gearbox parts, or any item that changed at the 2015 facelift, cross-referencing your VIN with the part number is strongly recommended before purchase.

Four-wheel drive variants of the L538 use an on-demand Haldex AWD system. This couples the rear axle electronically and distributes torque when front-axle slip is detected.
