Versnellingspookkogeltje is een gehard stalen arreteerkogeltje dat wordt gebruikt in het schakelmechanisme van handgeschakelde versnellingsbakken.

Het kogeltje wordt door een veer tegen de schakelas gedrukt en indexeert de schakelas in elke versnellingspositie, wat zorgt voor een positieve inschakeling en helpt voorkomen dat de versnellingsbak uit de versnelling springt. Het wordt gebruikt in de schakelmechanismen van de handgeschakelde 5-versnellingsbakken LT77 en R380, en hetzelfde kogeltje dient als arreteerpen in de stuurdoos van de Series.

What does the gearbox selector ball do?

The selector ball is a hardened steel detent ball in the manual gearbox selection mechanism. Spring-loaded against the selector shaft, it indexes each gear into position for positive engagement and helps stop the box jumping out of gear. It's used in the LT77 and R380 5-speed gearboxes.

What happens if the selector detent ball wears?

A worn detent ball or weak detent spring typically causes the gearbox to jump out of gear or give vague gear selection. Replacing the ball restores positive indexing. It's a low-cost part often renewed when the LT77 or R380 selector mechanism is already apart.
