Frequently asked questions

What is the FRC1387 O-ring used for?
The FRC1387 is a seal for the LT76 manual gearbox, seating within the transmission assembly to seal a mating joint against oil leakage. It's the early type, fitted to the Series 2, 2A and 3 and the Defender up to 1983.
Which LT76 O-ring is this, the early or later type?
This is the early-type O-ring, and on the Series 3 it fits in the bottom (lower) groove of the assembly. If your gearbox uses the later ring or a different groove position, check that before ordering, as LT76 seals vary by build.
When should this gearbox O-ring be replaced?
Replace this O-ring whenever the LT76 joint it seals is opened up, since rubber O-rings typically harden and shrink with age and heat, leading to oil weeping. Fitting a new one during any gearbox strip-down usually prevents a repeat leak.
