Crankshaft Bolt is the retaining bolt that secures the pulley and damper assembly to the nose of the crankshaft on the V8 petrol engine.

Threaded into the front of the crankshaft, it clamps the crankshaft pulley in place so it drives the front-end accessory belts and locates the timing reference. It is a high-tension fastener torqued to a specific figure on assembly and is renewed when the front pulley or timing cover is disturbed.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Crankshaft Bolt and what does it do?
The Crankshaft Bolt secures the pulley and damper assembly to the nose of the crankshaft on the V8 petrol engine. Threaded into the front of the crankshaft, it clamps the pulley so it drives the front accessory belts and locates the timing reference on the Defender, Discovery and Range Rover.
Should the crankshaft bolt be reused or replaced?
The crankshaft bolt is a high-tension fastener, so it's typically renewed rather than reused whenever the front pulley or timing cover is disturbed. Reusing a stretched bolt risks it loosening or failing under load. Torque it to the workshop manual specification on assembly.
Which vehicles does this crankshaft bolt fit?
This crankshaft bolt fits the V8 petrol engine across the Defender, Discovery 1, Discovery 2, Range Rover Classic and Range Rover P38. On Discovery 1 it applies from VIN FA393361 to WA799999. Confirm your engine is a V8 petrol before ordering.
