Frequently asked questions

What does the STC359R brake shoe set do?
The STC359R is an aftermarket rear drum brake shoe set for the Land Rover Defender and Series II/III. Its four shoes hold the friction linings that expand against the 11-inch rear drums to brake the rear axle.
Is one set enough to do both rear wheels?
Yes, one STC359R set covers the full rear axle with four shoes, two per wheel. Rear drum shoes are best replaced as an axle set so both sides wear evenly and braking stays even.
When should rear drum brake shoes be replaced?
Replace the rear shoes once the linings wear down, which typically brings weaker braking, a grinding sound from the drums, or a longer handbrake pull. Leaving worn shoes in place reduces rear braking and can score the drums.
Which models do these brake shoes fit?
These suit the Land Rover Defender 1983 to 2006 up to VIN KA930455 and the Series II, IIA and III 109-inch LWB, all running 11-inch rear drums. Confirm your VIN and drum size before fitting.
