This medium-length pin is used at the forward (chassis-fixed) pivot points of both the front and rear leaf springs on Series 2A suffix B onwards and all Series III vehicles. It passes through the spring eye and the rubber or bronze bush in the chassis mounting bracket, securing the spring while allowing it to flex under load.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Shackle Pin (537741) do on a Series Land Rover?
The shackle pin (537741) is the medium-length pin used at the forward pivot of the front spring and both pivot positions of the rear spring on Series II/IIA and III vehicles. It passes through the spring eye and the bush in the chassis bracket, securing the spring while allowing it to flex.
Which spring positions does the 537741 cover?
On Series IIA (suffix B onwards) and Series III, the 537741 fits the forward chassis-fixed pivot of the front spring, and both the front and rear pivots of the rear spring. It does not fit the rear pivot of the front spring shackle, which uses the longer 537742.
What are the signs that shackle pins need replacing?
Shackle pins wear where they bear against the bush in the chassis bracket. On Series vehicles this typically shows as clunking under load changes, imprecise steering, or excessive play at the spring shackle. Wear is accelerated by off-road use and inadequate lubrication of the pin and bush.
