U-Bolt – Rear – 1-Ton clamps the rear leaf spring to the axle. The U-shaped bolt passes over the axle and through the spring seat plate, where its two threaded legs are drawn down by nuts to hold the spring and axle tightly together.

This is the heavier-duty 1-Ton rear specification. The same U-bolt is used on the left and right sides.

U-bolts stretch and corrode over time and lose clamping force, which allows the axle to shift on the spring. They are normally renewed as a set when re-tensioning the spring seats or fitting new springs, and the nuts must be torqued evenly.

Frequently asked questions

What does the rear 1-Ton U-bolt do?
The rear 1-Ton U-bolt clamps the rear leaf spring to the axle on 109-inch Series 2 and 3 models. It passes over the axle and through the spring seat plate, where its two threaded legs are drawn down by nuts to hold the spring and axle tightly together. The same U-bolt fits left and right.
How many U-bolts should I replace at once?
U-bolts are typically renewed as a complete set rather than singly, usually when fitting new rear springs or re-tensioning the spring seats. Replacing them together keeps clamping force even across the rear axle on the 109-inch chassis.
What are the signs the rear U-bolts need replacing?
Signs of worn rear U-bolts include visible corrosion, stretched or distorted legs, and the axle shifting on the leaf spring. As U-bolts stretch and corrode they lose clamping force, so renew them and torque the nuts evenly to keep the axle located.
