The rotor arm sweeps inside the cap and feeds the high-tension voltage from the coil to each cylinder's spark plug lead in firing order. This is the top-entry lead pattern, with the HT leads entering vertically through the cap. Cracks, carbon tracking or corroded terminals cause misfires, so the cap is renewed periodically as an ignition service item.
