Brand Lucas
Contact Set for the Lucas 25D distributor in the ignition system of the 2.25L and 2.6L petrol engines.

The contact set (breaker points) opens and closes as the distributor cam rotates, interrupting the primary circuit of the ignition coil to trigger the high-tension spark. The point gap is adjustable and should be set together with dwell when fitting. A worn or pitted contact set causes weak spark, misfire and hard starting.

Frequently asked questions

What does the 25D contact set do?
This contact set, or breaker points, is for the Lucas 25D distributor on the 2.25L and 2.6L petrol engines. As the distributor cam turns, the points open and close to interrupt the coil's primary circuit and trigger the spark.
How is the contact set adjusted when fitting?
The point gap is adjustable and should be set along with the dwell angle when fitting. A feeler gauge sets the gap, and it's a common DIY ignition service job on these Lucas-equipped Series petrol engines.
What are the signs the contact set needs replacing?
A worn or pitted contact set typically causes weak spark, misfire and hard starting. The points wear and the gap drifts over time, so they're a routine ignition tune-up item on the Series 2.25L and 2.6L petrol engines.
