Camshaft Bearing for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th journal positions of the four-cylinder engine. The bearing shell is fitted into its housing in the cylinder block and carries the camshaft journal, holding running clearance as the camshaft turns.

The camshaft bearings locate the camshaft within the block and take the loads passed back from the cam lobes as they drive the valve gear and fuel and oil pumps. This part covers the centre and rear positions; the front journal uses a separate bearing. Correct bearing clearance maintains oil pressure through the shaft and keeps valvetrain operation quiet.

Frequently asked questions

What does this camshaft bearing do?
This camshaft bearing supports the 2nd, 3rd and 4th journals of the Land Rover four-cylinder engine. The shell fits into its housing in the block and carries the camshaft journal, holding running clearance and oil pressure as the camshaft drives the valve gear and the fuel and oil pumps.
Which engines and models does it fit?
This camshaft bearing fits the four-cylinder Land Rover engines, including the 2.25 petrol and diesel, 2.5 petrol and diesel, and the 200 TDi and 300 TDi. It's used across Series, Defender 1987 to 2006, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic with these engines.
Does this cover all the camshaft bearing positions?
This bearing covers the 2nd, 3rd and 4th, the centre and rear, camshaft journal positions only. The front journal uses a separate bearing, so a full camshaft bearing overhaul needs the front bearing ordered alongside this part.
What happens when a camshaft bearing wears?
A worn camshaft bearing typically opens up running clearance, which bleeds off oil pressure and can make the valvetrain noisy. On these engines low oil pressure from worn cam bearings can affect the whole engine, so clearances are checked whenever the camshaft is out.
