Chassis Shackle Bush – Front is the compliant bush at the chassis end of the front spring shackle, part of the leaf spring suspension mounting.

The shackle lets the leaf spring change its effective length as it deflects, while the bush isolates the shackle pivot from the chassis bracket, damping vibration and locating the spring. Worn bushes allow excess movement, producing knocking and imprecise axle location.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Chassis Shackle Bush and what does it do?
The Chassis Shackle Bush is the compliant bush at the chassis end of the front spring shackle on leaf-sprung Land Rover Series 2 and 3 models. It isolates the shackle pivot from the chassis bracket, damping vibration and locating the leaf spring as it deflects.
How many shackle bushes are typically needed for the job?
Shackle bushes are typically renewed in matching sets rather than singly. Each front spring shackle carries bushes at both ends, and most owners replace both sides of the axle together so the leaf spring suspension settles evenly. Check your own setup before ordering.
What are the signs the shackle bush needs replacing?
Worn shackle bushes usually show up as knocking from the front suspension and vague axle location, especially over bumps. The perished rubber lets the shackle move too much, which loosens spring location on Series 2 and 3 leaf-sprung axles and speeds up wear elsewhere in the mounting.
Does this fit all Series models?
This shackle bush fits leaf-sprung Land Rover Series 2 and 3 models, covering 88-inch and 109-inch diesel and 109-inch petrol. It does not fit the 1-ton 109-inch variant, which uses different shackle mountings. Confirm your wheelbase and variant before ordering.
