Frequently asked questions

What does the ERR4708 drive belt tensioner do?
The ERR4708 automatic drive belt tensioner keeps the auxiliary belt under correct tension on the 2.5L 300TDi engine, driving the alternator, water pump and power steering pump. The spring-loaded mechanism compensates for belt stretch automatically, so no manual adjustment is needed.
What are the signs the tensioner needs replacing?
A failing drive belt tensioner typically shows up as belt squeal, a rattle from the front of the 300TDi engine, or visible belt wobble. The internal spring and bearing wear over time, so worn tensioners usually let the belt slip, affecting charging and power steering. Replace it if the pulley feels rough or loose.
Which 300TDi models does the ERR4708 fit?
The ERR4708 tensioner fits the 2.5L 300TDi engine on the Defender (1987-2006), Discovery 1 from VIN MA081992 and Range Rover Classic from VIN JA610294. It's the automatic ancillary drive tensioner, so confirm your engine is the 300TDi rather than the earlier 200TDi.
