Banjo Bolt - M10 is the hollow fastener used to secure the oil feed pipe at the block-to-head junction in the lubrication circuit of the 2.25L and 2.5L 4-cylinder diesel engines.

The banjo bolt passes through the eye of the banjo fitting on the oil feed pipe and threads into the mating port on the cylinder block or cylinder head face, clamping the assembly against a pair of sealing washers to maintain an oil-tight connection. A metric M10 thread form is used on these engines. Replacement is typically required when the bolt or its sealing faces show damage, thread wear, or signs of oil seepage at the banjo joint.

Frequently asked questions

What is the M10 banjo bolt used for?
The M10 banjo bolt is the hollow fastener that secures the oil feed pipe at the block-to-head junction on the 2.25L and 2.5L four-cylinder Land Rover diesel engines. Oil flows through the bolt's drillings, and it clamps the banjo fitting against sealing washers to keep the joint oil-tight.
Does the banjo bolt need new sealing washers?
The banjo bolt seals against a pair of sealing washers, one each side of the banjo eye, which should be renewed whenever the joint is disturbed. Washers are often supplied separately, so check before fitting. Reusing old crush washers is a common cause of oil seepage at the banjo joint.
Which Land Rovers use this M10 banjo bolt?
The M10 banjo bolt fits the Land Rover Series II and III and early Defender models running the 2.25L or 2.5L four-cylinder diesel engine. It's used on the oil feed pipe connection and uses a metric M10 thread, so confirm your engine's oil pipe takes the M10 banjo size.
