Vacuümvervroeger voor de ontstekingverdeler van de 3.5L V8 benzinemotor.

Deze vacuümvervroeger wordt aan de zijkant van de verdeler gemonteerd en met een klein pijpje aangesloten op een vacuümaansluiting op de carburateur of het inlaatspruitstuk. Bij lichte belasting trekt het vacuüm het membraan tegen de veer en roteert de koppeling de basisplaat van de verdeler om de ontsteking te vervroegen, wat de efficiëntie bij deellast verbetert; naarmate de belasting toeneemt en het vacuüm daalt, keert de timing terug.

Een gescheurd membraan of een vastgelopen koppeling uit zich in slecht functioneren bij deellast, pingelen of een hoger brandstofverbruik.
