Frequently asked questions

What is the 217525 circlip used for?
The 217525 circlip retains the rear mainshaft bearing within the Series Land Rover gearbox casing, stopping the bearing moving axially under drive loads. It locates in the machined groove on the mainshaft at the rear bearing position. It's a small but essential internal gearbox retainer.
Which Land Rovers does the 217525 circlip fit?
The 217525 circlip fits the Series 1, 2 and 3 Land Rover gearbox at the rear mainshaft bearing. It's not suitable for V8-engined variants, which use a different gearbox. Confirm you have the Series four-cylinder gearbox before ordering.
Can the 217525 circlip be reused?
Replace the 217525 circlip rather than reusing it once it's been removed, since the legs lose tension and can spring out under load. Fit a new circlip whenever you rebuild the rear mainshaft bearing. A circlip that doesn't seat fully in its groove can let the bearing shift.
