Hub Bearing – inner taper roller bearing for the front and rear wheel hubs.

The bearing sits inside the hub and runs on the stub axle, carrying the wheel load and allowing the hub to turn. It is the inner of the two opposed taper roller bearings in each hub, working with the outer bearing to take both radial and thrust loads.

Frequently asked questions

What is the inner hub bearing for?
The inner Hub Bearing is the inner taper roller bearing that sits inside the front or rear wheel hub on the Land Rover Series 2, 2A and 3. It runs on the stub axle, carries the wheel load and works with the outer bearing to take radial and thrust loads.
How many bearings are needed per hub?
Each hub uses one inner bearing, paired with a separate outer bearing. To rebuild a hub you'll usually replace both bearings as a set, so order the matching outer bearing at the same time.
What are the signs the hub bearing needs replacing?
A worn hub bearing typically shows as a rumbling or droning noise that changes with speed, wheel play, or roughness when you spin the hub. Because it carries the wheel load on the Series 2, 2A and 3, a failed inner bearing can cause hub wobble if left.
Does this fit all Series 3 models?
This inner bearing fits the Series 2 and 2A throughout, and the Series 3 up to September 1980. Later Series 3 hubs use a different bearing, so check your build date if you have a Series 3.
