Oil Seal installed within the wheel hub assembly to retain lubricant and prevent contamination ingress at the hub-to-stub-axle interface.

The seal operates within the hub bearing and housing assembly, maintaining the internal lubricant environment for the wheel bearings while excluding water, dust and debris from the rotating hub cavity.

Used on solid-axle hub assemblies where the hub rotates on tapered roller bearings mounted on the stub axle. The seal seats in the rear of the hub housing and runs against the stub axle sealing surface, forming the primary barrier between the lubricated hub bearing chamber and the external environment.

What does the RTC3510R wheel hub oil seal do?

The RTC3510R wheel hub oil seal seals the hub-to-stub-axle interface on Land Rover Series 2, 2A and 3. Seated in the back of the hub housing, it runs against the stub axle and keeps the bearing lubricant in while shutting out water, mud and grit from the rotating hub cavity.

When should the hub oil seal be replaced?

Replace the hub oil seal whenever the hub is dismantled for bearing service, since the old seal seldom reseats once disturbed. A weeping seal that lets grease onto the brakes or admits water is also due for renewal. On Series axles it's a low-cost item always worth fitting fresh during a hub rebuild.

What happens if the hub seal leaks?

A leaking hub seal lets the wheel bearing lubricant escape and allows water and grit into the hub, which accelerates bearing wear and can contaminate the brakes. On Series Land Rovers, catching a weeping seal early and renewing it protects the more expensive taper roller hub bearings behind it.
