Castle Nut (castellated nut) used to retain halfshafts, output shafts and differential pinion shafts in Land Rover axle and drivetrain assemblies.

The castellated profile accepts a cotter pin (split pin) through a corresponding radial hole in the shaft, positively locking the nut against rotation and preventing it from backing off under vibration and load cycling in the axle and differential assemblies.
